Earth Day Minneapolis

April 18, 2013

Do you love living in a clean city? This is something that is important to many of us, so it makes total sense that we would work to keep it clean, not just on Earth Day, but every day. However, if you are looking to get your green routine started, join in on the fun on Saturday, April 22 for the annual Minneapolis Earth Day Clean-Up. You won’t regret it!

Only A Few Hours Of Your Time To Make A Huge Difference

The annual Minneapolis Earth Day Clean-Up goes from 9:30 a.m. until noon, so all you need is a few hours of you your time! Registration is not required and you can just show up and be ready to help out.

Clean-up volunteers will be helping to clean up Minneapolis parks, watersheds, neighborhoods, and bodies of water, including the following: the Chain of Lakes, Lake Hiawatha, Lake Nokomis, Powderhorn Lake, Diamond Lake, Shingle Creek, Minnehaha Creek, Bassett’s Creek, and the Mississippi River. To view the complete list of clean-up sites, please visit the event website.

The event is not only for those who are experienced when it comes to helping the environment, but the event also encourages new volunteers to get involved. It is meant to serve as an educational experience for new volunteers while also helping to make Minneapolis a cleaner, greener place to live. At last year’s Earth Day event, onsite programs taught new volunteers a bit about river/stream water testing, stream erosion, recycled art programs, birdhouse building, and wildlife effects of pollution.

Get Involved In This Year’s Earth Day

Since 2000, Earth Day Minneapolis has been attracting new volunteers and cleaning up Minneapolis, but the largest amounts of volunteers help from 2006 through 2010 with 1,364 volunteers in 2006, 2,059 in 2007, 2,859 in 2008, over 3,000 in 2009, and again over 3,000 in 2010. The event took a drop down to 1,500 volunteers in 2011 and 2,000 in 2012, so get your family and friends together and volunteer this Earth Day! Minneapolis needs you to make the event a success.

Whether or not you can participate in the Minneapolis Earth Day Clean-Up on April 22, you also have the option of contributing to the green movement in another way. When you donate a vehicle to Wheels For Wishes, you are recycling a vehicle and allowing it to be reused. Car donation is also an easy alternative to selling or trading in a vehicle, but the best benefit is that your unwanted automobile can help local children's charities. Plus, you get a great tax deduction.

If you have a vehicle to donate this Earth Day, please give us a call at 1-844-476-9474 or fill out our online donation form. You can help make the world a better place this Earth Day!
